JUST DUET
JUST DUET ~ two person show of recent work by husband and wife, Alexandra and Jeremy Ackerman.
August/September, 2025 at Octagon Center for the Arts, Ames, IA.
Our story:
We first met each other in Boston at the tail end of art school, finding common ground in our similar midwestern sense of humor. Over the years we committed to becoming partners, parents and professionals (in that order). Through it all we have encouraged each other to keep artistic endeavors central to our shared journey. Truthfully, that journey can be messy, chaotic, and some days seemingly insurmountable. And despite the challenges of being artist-partners, we cherish the fact that we still share a studio and a life. While we are rarely working at the same time, our artwork is always together. Hung on separate walls but quietly humming in the other person's periphery.
Although we express ourselves differently in style and subject matter, we share a common sense of playfulness, an obsession with color, and a process that is mostly intuitive - rather than planned. We both create unique worlds; layered dreamscapes that continue to reveal themselves in unpredictable ways.
After 25 years of marriage and 30 years as co-creators it is our great pleasure to share with you the most recent pieces from our ongoing duet. One that feels as fresh as the day we met and gets deeper every day.
Here we are when we met in art school (“just kids”) 1994?
And here we are today!
We hope to show this work again since many folks could not make the drive to see it. Octagon is a beautiful and light-filled space that could hold all our work.
Jeremy’s largest piece - cut paper and colored pencil on custom built wood panels. Total insanity.
